This has been adapted from a Peter Walsh Article from the Queen herself, Oprah’s website.

1. How many of you remember when Carrie was trying to buy her apartment and realized all her money was in her closet??? Well, for all my designer whores, make a little money from all that stuff that is from a few seasons ago and you refuse to be seen in again. Designer-label clothing and shoes, musical instruments, collectibles, sporting goods and even car parts can all generate a good amount of money on online auction sites or in consignment stores.

2. If you’re anything like us at Mirror Image Mag, you are a packrat. We keep EVERYTHING. We figure the moment we get rid of it we will be looking for it. BUT 2009 is the year for change. Do a little good with your clutter. There are charities that will take specific items and find a great uses for them, Peter says. You know the old saying, “one man’s trash is another man’s treaure.” And it can be a tax write off!

3. Ohh, I’ve been guilty of this. I remember paying for a magazine subscription for a whole year that was going to an address that I didn’t even have access to! That is what we call too darn lazy to call and cancel or change my subscription. Collect every magazine and catalog you can find in the house, gather them in one room and arrange them into piles. Decide what magazines and catalogs you just don’t need or read. Go online or call to immediately cancel the subscriptions.

4. Hmm. This looks interesting. And sounds like a fun way to get grocery shopping done. Organize a few friends or family members for a shopping trip to a warehouse or wholesale store (think BJs, Costco, Sam’s Club) that sells items in bulk. No bargain hunting or spontaneous purchases. Peter says we should plan what we really need and plan to buy prior to getting to the stores. Divide the bulk items into containers and resealable plastic bags for each family.
