Dear Readers,
I am coming to you today from the top of my soap box. (Give me a minute to be lifted up) Okay, I’m settled now. We MUST, I repeat MUST, do something about this disaster that is taking over nightlife. Flip-flops in the club as shoes!!! When did it become the “IN” thing to wear to the club that which one wears to the corner store?
Now I know that flip-flops have stepped their game up over the years. I myself own over 20 pairs, in different colors, styles and materials. Really, it is kind of amazing how many different ways they can market the same shoe. I have flip-flops that I have paid $1 for and flip-flops that I have paid over $40 on. Yet I won’t be caught in the club wearing any of them. That is not to say that I have never brought a pair in my bag (or a friend’s bag when mine is too small) but that is for after I leave the club and do the drunken walk to the car not for while I’m getting my drink and my two step on inside of the club.
I went out to a few spots last night and was very disappointed in what women were considering appropriate footwear. I’ll give it that flats are very trendy this summer but there is a difference between flats & flip-flops. And even still I believe flats are great for shopping, lunching, bbqing and hanging out during the day but once night falls it is time to make a change.
Footwear can make or break an outfit. And last night I saw waaaaaaaay too many outfits that were borderline end up broken. I know that my whole disposition changes when I throw on a sexy pair of stilettoes. Does that not happen for all my stylish sisters? Gentlemen, doesn’t a fly pair of heels grab your attention?
I’m asking you to join me in the ANTI FLIP FLOP MOVEMENT. Ladies, pledge to step your shoe game up when you go out at night. Gentlemen, pledge not to give these flip-flop femmes any added attention. Let’s bring back the IMAGE we want to nightlife. Let’s bring back the days of taking hours to get ready and really looking like we care when we go out.
Please bring your “A” game or stay home. Oh, and fellas, don’t think you’re off of the hook. Leave the white tees as undershirts and stop thinking they’re a fashion statement. Do you even know why that trend started?
