Fashion took center stage at the 2008 BET Awards. While there weren’t too many fashion risk takers, playing it safe never looked better.

Alicia Keys uncharacteristically shows off her legs in this pink frock-like dress. She paired this cheerful dress with a subtle pair of black & white shoes. Opting for a bare neck and sleek pulled back hair could not have made her look more radiant and polished

Nelly kept his look very safe and went with an urban look that worked well for him. The black graphic t-shirt was the focal point which may explain why he was wearing less of his trademark bling

Unfortunately Ashanti was one of the fashion losers of the evening. Her dress is much too busy…or dare I say complicated? It looks to much like a costume dress. Also, wearing black in the summer is a poor fashion choice.

Gabrielle Union never disappoints on the red carpet. She wore a white Grecian inspired gown with silver peep toe shoes. She kept the look as minimalist as possible by also pulling her hair back and wearing very understated earrings.

Rhianna, a known fashion risk taker, pulled off the current color of the season: yellow. She went with a softer look by wearing a floor length tiered dress.

Soulja Boy is wearing way too many layers here. It appears that he is wearing more than one outfit. He’s definitely another fashion loser of the evening

Chris Brown also manages to look fresh and trendy. Here he is wearing skinny jeans very reminiscent of the 80’s with a motorcycle jacket. I’m not sure if wearing leather in the summer in a fashion faux pas?

Trina is also wearing the color of the season. This shirt dress perfectly flatters here curves. Her gold heels heels went well with the dress but I would have liked to see a contrasting color worn, such as red, blue, or pink
